We are celebrating the 10th anniversary of NaDEET's German support organisation, "Freundschaft mit NaDEET" this year!
For the occasion, Viktoria Keding spent a week in Germany to celebrate and further spread awareness about NaDEET's work in Namibia through presentations to various audiences. The visit culminated with the annual meeting where the board was surprised with a thank you gift. Solar cooking aprons! Freundschaft mit NaDEET provides significant financial support to allow NaDEET Centre programmes to be available to all regardless of financial means.
Teachers, institutional workers and management from the Brukkaros School Cluster in the //Kharas Region reflected on their recent workshop at NaDEET: “It was awesome, fun, adventurous and a learning experience. I now have better knowledge to help save the environment and the programme was so practical. I am now 100% of the SDGs”. Thank you to the Namibia Project for your long standing support of this community.
In our continuous effort to be more sustainable, we have commenced with establishing a sustainable gardening project. The project aims to produce fresh food for our Centre programmes and importantly to be a teaching garden. It is part of a larger renovation project to modernize our operational base. The realization of this garden project was made possible by sponsorship from the Reinke family from Germany.
“Closing the gap between learning for the environment and practicing for the environment”- were the words spoken by Hon. Deputy Minister of Education Anna Hipondoka to congratulate NaDEET in her keynote address at the celebration event in Windhoek. With the 2017 prize winner Sihlengeni Primary School from Zimbabwe, the event brought together international and local EE/ESD stakeholders to celebrate and share ideas. After the celebration, a fortunate group of 20 delegates travelled to NaDEET Centre for a two-day hands-on learning experience. Read here the reflections of one of the participants.
The Urban Sustainability Centre was buzzing with life when it hosted the Westside High School Environmental Club for the first official programmes of the year. Learners from grades 4-7 were excited to try out the new activity stations in the Sustainable Activity House during the half day programmes that were hosted over 2 days. “NaDEET is a very nice place, we enjoyed the company and the staff is phenomenal. I enjoyed the shower the most, now I know I can use a cup to brush my teeth” said a grade 7 learner at the end of her visit.
In gearing up for the new year, NaDEET Centre staff received their first aid certification in a three day training course. The course ended with simulation of potential incidences that provided the knowledge to assist colleagues and visitors in medical emergencies. It was a refresher to those who had taken the course before and just what the new staff members needed in preparation for working with groups.
