Youth from RUG communities visits NaDEET Centre

‘NaDEET has been very educational. It has brought me closer to the environment, rather changed the way I think about the environment. It taught me the impacts my actions have on the environment. I can be responsible and take action to save the world’. Loutjie, Gochas Youth.
After a week of hands learning, most RUG youth could reflect on the impacts their actions have on the environment and pledged what they would do differently to improve their lives and local environment.

Media for the Environment

Media plays an important role in the environment. It allows us to keep ourselves informed about current environmental events. As part of the EU funded action  this booklet gives you tips on how to report on the environment and how to use media to share and keep yourself updated. Our RUG participating communities  will use this as a guide to share and evaluate their work, how are you going to use it? Download the Bush Telegraph  to learn more.

Recycling Competition Most Improved School Win NaDEET Centre Prize

Out of all RNF School Recycling Competition participating schools, Namutoni PS scooped up the title ‘2014/2015 Most Improved School’. Their prize was a week-long trip to NaDEET Centre sponsored by the Environment Investment Fund.
‘At NaDEET I learned things I didn’t know, I did not respect the environment, I use to litter and if I pick up papers I did not do it intentionally but now I learned that if I pick up papers the environment looks so ‘sweet’ and clean’ reflects Fenni Angukku.
Learning more about recycling, they also learnt other waste management techniques including reducing and reusing. However when the learners were asked what was significant about their week, most were impressed with solar cooking. They were especially impressed by how well it works, and that not only does it save the environment, but also that it saves a lot of money.

Thank You NaDEET for opening our eyes

“I have learned a lot. I’m now rich. I hope my family will help me reach that goal of a sustainable life. Thank You. Thank you.”
Anna Katrina Hanse, 41, from Maltahohe made these remarks at the end of their one week education programme at NaDEET Centre earlier this month. Anna and 114 community members all from the Hardap Region were this year’s recipients of sustainable living equipment earned through the programme. Like Anna, these families have an opportunity to help each other realize a sustainable lifestyle by using their solar cookers, fuel efficient stoves and the wealth of knowledge and skills learnt.

Thank you to our sponsors European Union who sponsored 89 of these participants through RUG for Sustainability and Freundschaft mit NaDEET that sponsored Maltahohe.

Implementing sustainable living one household at a time

It is year two of NaDEET’s EU sponsored- RUG for Sustainability project. The RUG team recently surveyed over 200 households and used the opportunity to meet with previous NaDEET Centre participants. It was refreshing to witness first-hand the use of sustainable living equipment such as Katrina Osemas from Gochas cooking on her self-made fuel efficient stove. Watch a short video here of Katrina and others in action!
