Why environmental education
(EE)?
The worldwide
environmental crisis is directly connected to our daily actions and
attitude towards our natural environment. Although action needs to be
taken on all levels to create meaningful change, education is key to
fostering understanding and compassion for our environment. Namibia has
a unique environmental education challenge as outlined below:
Social - household food
insecurity, poor health(incl. HIV and AIDS), low educational
levels, lack of skills, disrupted traditional lifestyles and high
urbanization rates
Political - lack of sense
of citizenship, democratic history and processes and environmental
policies
Economic - unequal
distribution of resources including land, wealth, water and community
services
Environmental - over
exploration of natural resources, leading to unproductive land
